Picks of the Week
Each week we will be choosing our favorite games we have played over the previous week with a small write up about them.
Nick’s Pick of the Week
Root
Root is beautiful, interesting, fun, and as intimidating as a board game can get. The intimidation is one reason why it sat on the shelf for so long before being played. The game seems hard to learn and even harder to teach, but what do you expect from a game this is completely asymmetrical. Not only is every player playing a different game, but they also must know how each other faction works in order to combat them. The intimidation doesn’t last long, however, and after a play or two most players should have a decent handle on the game. Root is a game that will take many, many plays to master, but the thing is, after playing it you will WANT to play it many, many more times. Such a fantastic game.

Silver & Gold
Silver & Gold is a quick little filler game that features cards that you can write on. Of course not permanently, but with dry erase markers. The game is only 4 rounds and takes around 20 minutes. This means you can play it as an appetizer before the main game of the night or as a quick weeknight game to get your board game fix in. While there is no direct player interaction, there is a sense of urgency to complete your treasure cards as efficiently as possible. This allows you to have first selection of the row of treasure cards which could mean more points. I highly recommend Silver & Gold. You should give it a try soon.
